The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested an Income Tax (I-T) inspector in Vadodara,Bharat Desai,on charges of corruption. Desai was nabbed while accepting a bribe of Rs 43,500. The arrest was made after Somji Bamaniya,a resident of Dahod,and secretary of a private employees union,filed a complaint against Desai. In his complaint,Bamaniya had accused Desai of allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 for closing an I-T investigation against the former. According to ACB officials,Desai,who works in the office of Assistant Director of Income Tax (Investigation),was investigating an anonymous complaint that accused Bamaniya of allegedly evading income tax. Desai,the ACB said,had demanded Rs 50,000 for closing this investigation. Bamaniya had already paid Rs 6,500 to Desai and the remaining amount was to be paid on Wednesday. Meanwhile,acting on Bamaniyas complaint,the ACB laid a trap for Desai. Desai was arrested while accepting the money. He has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, ACB police inspector,Bharat Chawda,said.
