Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members submitted a memorandum to the district collector on Friday against a police inspector after students were beaten up at a protest rally.

The incident took place on Thursday when over 100 ABVP members organised a chakka jam as a part of a nationwide demonstration against globalisation of education.

The demonstration was disrupted when the police officers resorted to lathicharge.

Many of the students were hurt and one of them even fractured his leg.

“There were police officials with us when we had started the demonstration to maintain peace. But suddenly Inspector V S Manjaria came on the spot and instructed his men beat us up. This came without any warning. We also plan to approach the police commissioner and demand an action against Manjaria,” said Harpalsinh Rana,ABVP member.

The police had arrested three students on charges of rioting on Thursday. They were later released on bail. Cops said the students’ wing did not take prior permission for holding a demonstration.

“Students were dragged out from their colleges and beat them up. We condemn such an act by the police,” claimed Smit Thakkur,M S University General Secretary.
