The Narmada police arrested four students of a Vadodara-based dental college near the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited Dam,on Saturday, for their involvement in car lifting.
According to the Local Crime Branch (LCB),the youths are in the age-group of 18-21 and belong to affluent families. One of them had stolen a white Wagon R car from Navrangpura about a month and a half ago.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning when the LCB and Kevadia police officers were returning from routine patrolling near the SSNNL dam site at Kevadia in Kadnadi village.
The car parked on the side of the road did not have the front number plate. On checking the vehicle,we found two number plates; one had a Vadodara registration while the other had an Ahmedabad registration. We took the youths to the Kevadia police station for further questioning. There, one of them,Akshay Bharat Patel (18),said he had stolen the car in Ahmedabad and wanted to have good time with friends in Vadodara, said LCB Inspector M M Pathan.
Patel and three others Nishil Jagdish Ladhleja (21),Dhruv Ashok Shah (20) and Spandan Sharad Thakore (21) are students of the K M Shah Dental College in the Pipariya area of Waghodia. Main accused Akshay Patel,a first-year student of the dental college,is from Patan, while the others are third-year students of the same college. Nishil belongs to Vadodara, while Spandan and Dhruv are from Ahmedabad.
Pathan said: Akshay has confessed. The car was kept in Vadodara near the college hostel. On Saturday, the youths decided to go for a ride and went towards Ankleshwar. From there, they went to Kevadia via Rajpipla in the morning. One of them had a driving licence, but they kept changing the number plates so that nobody could identify the car.
On Sunday, the four accused were handed over to the Ahmedabad police for further questioning.
The police will present them before a judicial magistrate soon.
