17 done, four more to go: NHSRCL completes river bridge over Vishwamitri in Vadodara for bullet train project
The 80-metre bridge consists of two spans of 40 meters each, constructed through the SBS (Span by Span) method. The height of the piers of the bridge are between 26 and 29.5 metres and three circular piers of 5.5 metres in diameter.

In a significant step for the bullet train project, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), which is executing the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor, on Wednesday said that it has completed the construction of river bridge over the Vishwamitri River in Vadodara city — its 17th river bridge in the Gujarat segment.
Spanning 80 meters, the bridge is located adjacent to the Vadodara Surat main line of the Western Railways. “The bridge comprises three piers, one of which is positioned in the river stream and other two on the banks of the river on each side. Passing through the urban landscape of Vadodara, this bridge serves as a critical infrastructure component in Vadodara district. Vadodara is one of the busiest urban centers and constructing a bridge passing through the city required exceptional planning, coordination with Vadodara Municipal Corporation and other local authorities,” the NHSRCL spokesperson said.

The height of the piers of the bridge are between 26 and 29.5 metres and three circular piers of 5.5 metres in diameter. “Each pier is laid on 12 piles of 1.8 m diameter and length up to 53 metres. This river is around 3 kilometers from Vadodara Bullet Train station. The other river bridge completed in Vadodara district is on Dhadhar River (120 metres),” NHSRCL said.
The bullet train alignment crosses Vishwamitri river at nine different locations in and around Vadodara. “In addition to the main river bridge, three out of the remaining eight crossings have already been completed, while construction work is currently underway at other crossings,” an NHSRCL spokesperson said.
Out of the 21 river bridges planned in the Gujarat segment of the 508 kilometre route, the NHSRCL has completed 17 river bridges so far. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor features a total of 25 river bridges — four of these are located in Maharashtra.
The completed river bridges in Gujarat include Par, Auranga, Kolak, Darotha and Daman Ganga in Valsad district; Purna, Mindhola, Ambika, Venganiya, Kaveri and Kharera in Navsari district; Kim in Surat district; Dhadhar and Vishwamitri in Vadodara district; and Meshwa, Mohar and Vatrak in Kheda district.
