100 maulavis expected at CM’s birthday bash

The function will be attended by state BJP leaders,ministers and priests from various sects.

More than one hundred maulavis and sufis from different districts of Gujarat are likely to participate in a programme organised to felicitate Chief Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday on Tuesday in Gandhinagar by Gujarat Gaurav Abhivadan Samiti. The function will be attended by state BJP leaders,ministers and priests from various sects. The function will be organised to felicitate Modi for being named the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate for the general elections.

BJP sources said that the party had instructed its district minority cells to bring five maulavis each to the function. And these people have been instructed to come wearing skull caps.

From Surat,the five Maulvis who will participate at the function are Maulana Mohsin Ashrafi of Darul Uloom Aljamiyatul Ashrafiya Rizviya in Unn,Kari Ataulla Kadri,a former teacher at Khwaja Dana Dargah Darul Uloom,Maulana Shariful Kadri,the Imam of Phoolwadi Mosque in Katargam,Maulana Usman Gani Ansari of Muglisara mosque,Saiyed Sirajuddin Khadim of Khwaja Dana Dargah,and Bababhai Shaikh,the president of BJP’s Surat city minority cell.

Talking to The Indian Express Maulana Mohsin Ashrafi said,“We are staunch followers of the BJP and had attended the Sadbhavna Sammelan here. The reason behind supporting Modi is that we have a peaceful atmosphere in the state under his leadership and till now have not faced any problem. The Muslims have progressed in Gujarat. We like Modi’s slogan,‘Sau no Saath Sau no Vikas’. He is not limited to only one section of society. If we are given a chance to recite poems,we will do so at the function.”

Saiyed Sirajuddin Khadim said,“We believe in Sufism and do not discriminate people as per their caste. We like Modi and are his proud supporters.”
