Chandigarh’s power demand soars to season-high of 452 MWAs the city continues to reel under a searing heatwave, power demand in Chandigarh soared to a season-high of 452 MW on June 11 — marking the highest electricity consumption recorded so far this year.
This is a nearly 9 per cent increase from the peak of 417 MW on the same day last year, said Amit Sharma, an official of CPDL.
Despite the sharp spike in demand, the Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) efficiently managed to meet the load without any disruptions or network-related failures, said a CPDL official.
“Our robust planning, supported by strategic interventions such as network strengthening, rigorous maintenance, and firm tie-ups with power exchanges, has enabled us to handle the increased load smoothly,” said Arun Kumar Verma, director, CPDL.
With temperatures forecast to rise further, officials anticipate power demand to exceed 481 MW in the coming days.
The CPDL has assured that all necessary preparations are in place to ensure uninterrupted power supply and minimal inconvenience to residents.
