Finance Secretary Pandey gets charge of Revenue, Chawla moved to DIPAM
The order by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) regarding the reshuffle of key portfolios in the Finance Ministry has been issued at a critical juncture with less than a month left for the presentation of the Budget for 2025-26.

Before his appointment as Revenue Secretary on December 25, 2024, Chawla was Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers since November 1, 2023.
Within two weeks of his appointment as Revenue Secretary, the government on Wednesday shifted 1992-batch Bihar cadre IAS officer Arunish Chawla to the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM). Finance Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey, who had the charge of Secretary, DIPAM, has now been appointed as Revenue Secretary.
The order by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) regarding the reshuffle of key portfolios in the Finance Ministry has been issued at a critical juncture with less than a month left for the presentation of the Budget for 2025-26.
Pandey, a 1987-batch Indian Administrative Service officer of Odisha cadre, has been the longest-serving Secretary of DIPAM since October 2019. According to convention, the senior-most secretary in the Finance Ministry is appointed as Finance Secretary. Pandey took over as Finance Secretary in September 2024 after his predecessor TV Somanathan was appointed as Cabinet Secretary.

Pandey, who holds a Master’s degree in economics and an MBA, had played a key role in finalising the sale of Air India as DIPAM Secretary.
The newly-appointed DIPAM Secretary, Chawla, will also hold additional charge of Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises, a charge which was also with Pandey earlier. Also, Chawla will continue to be Secretary, Ministry of Culture till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier, the order said.

The post of Revenue Secretary had fallen vacant after Sanjay Malhotra took over as RBI Governor in December.
