Microsoft warns XP users to ‘move on’

“We have seen a spike in migration in the last 18 months during which about 25 per cent of users made the switchover,” added Amrish Goyal.

With just 28 working days before support for Windows XP ends, Microsoft has raised alarm bells saying 16 per cent of large enterprises were still stuck to the OS. April 8 is the last day for Windows XP support. Microsoft India MD Karan Bajwa called it an alarming situation as 35 per cent of banking and financial services institutions and a similar number of state institutions were still on Windows XP.

“Usually companies give about five years of support for a tech product. We generally give five plus five. But Windows XP has already got over 12 years of support,” he said.

“We have seen a spike in migration in the last 18 months during which about 25 per cent of users made the switchover,” added Amrish Goyal, GM, Windows Business Group, Microsoft India.
