Calcutta High Court stays action against Vikram in Sonika death case

Chatterjee was arrested earlier this year after Sonika’s death in a car crash on April 29, 2017. Chatterjee was behind the wheel of the vehicle at the time of the incident. Chatterjee was arrested and a chargesheet filed against him on July 19, 2017.

As the actor and model were going down Rashbehari Avenue in south Kolkata at around 3.30 am, the car crashed into a divider in the middle of the road and then into a lamp post on the other side of the road.

The charges against Vikram Chatterjee come under non-bailable offence of the IPC. He was also charged with dangerous driving. Chatterjee was found inebriated while driving a car that led to the death of Sonika.

Vikram Chatterjee and Sonika Chauhan, were returning from a party when the accident occurred on a South Kolkata street. Vikram was arrested on July 7 near a South Kolkata mall. During the interrogation, the actor had confessed to consuming alcohol on the night of the accident.

The actor will be presented before the court on Friday. Chatterjee was charged with culpable homicide last week on Tuesday under the non-bailable section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC.
