Sanjay Singh was arrested on October 4, 2023 following a search of his North Avenue home. The ED alleged that businessman Dinesh Arora, an accused who later turned approver in the excise policy case, had given Rs 2 crore in cash to Singh.

This was the third high-profile arrest in the case — while AAP’s communication in-charge Vijay Nair was arrested in September last year, Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was arrested in February this year. Both are still behind bars.

An AAP orator next only to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, a Member of Parliament with links across Opposition parties apart from his hold on MLAs in Delhi and Punjab — for a party that has its top brass behind bars, the Supreme Court’s grant of bail to Sanjay Singh could not have been more timely.

With Singh released from Tihar Jail where he spent the last six months after his arrest under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, senior AAP leaders went into a huddle to discuss plans for their Rajya Sabha MP ahead of the party’s Lok Sabha campaign.

His release promises to tackle challenges that may be bigger than the upcoming Lok Sabha elections – that of keeping the AAP flock intact and removing the hurdles in communicating with INDIA bloc parties following his arrest last October.

Sanjay Singh is also the national spokesperson for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), a political party that was founded in 2012. Singh is a social activist turned politician, and he has been involved in various social movements throughout his career.

Singh was born in Sultanpur District, Uttar Pradesh, India. He comes from a family of teachers, and his parents were both educators. Singh himself is a qualified mining engineer, but he never worked in a regular job. Instead, he was drawn to social activism, and he became involved in various movements fighting for the rights of the poor and marginalized.

In 2011, Singh joined the India Against Corruption movement, which was led by social activist Anna Hazare. The movement was demanding reforms in the Indian government to fight corruption. Singh became a prominent spokesperson for the movement, and he played a key role in mobilizing public support.

In 2012, Singh became a founding member of the Aam Aadmi Party. The AAP was formed by Arvind Kejriwal, a former IRS officer who was also part of the India Against Corruption movement. The AAP was founded on the principles of transparency, accountability, and people-centric governance.

Singh has played a key role in the growth and success of the Aam Aadmi Party. He has organised and managed the party's campaigns in various elections. He has also been a vocal spokesperson for the party, both inside and outside the Parliament.

In 2018, Singh was elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Delhi. He has been a very active MP, and he has raised several important issues in the Parliament. He has also been a strong advocate for the rights of the people of Delhi.
