In a letter to Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, state Congress president Kuldeep Singh Thakur said Gandhi had laid the foundation stone on June 28, 2010 in the presence of the then CM Prem Kumar Dhumal and Union minister Virbhadra Singh.

The Tunnel, which would earlier take nearly 4 hours to travel between Solang Valley and Sissu, cuts through a mountain west of the Rohtang La and will now shorten the distance between the two points by around 46 km and will take around 15 minutes to cover.
