Mulayam Singh Yadav, born November 22, 1939, is a senior Indian politician and the supremo of the Samajwadi Party. He is currently a member of Lok Sabha, representing Azamgarh constituency of Uttar Pradesh. In his career as a politician, he also served as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh thrice -- 1989 to 1991, 1993 to 1995 and 2003 to 2007. He also served as India's Defence Minister in the United Front coalition government that his party was part of. Towards the end of 2016, it was rumoured that Mulayam Singh Yadav, also popularly know as Netaji, would be made President of India, succeeding President Pranab Mukherjee.
