Panaji (Goa), Jan 26 (ANI): A Syrian national, allegedly overstaying in India, was traced and detained by Goa Police from an offshore casino off Panaji late on Monday night. Inspector General of Police, Sunil Garg on Tuesday said that they had got information that a person from Syria was missing during his overstay in country and his location was said to be around Goa. He also said that on Monday they had traced him and interrogation is underway. The interrogation of the detained Syrian national assumes significance in the wake of the recent death threats to Prime Minster Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar over beef ban in the country. The message was sent through an anonymous postcard which had ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) written on it.

Families claimed the victims had paid nearly two million rupees to travel agents for immigration to the US. Dubious travel agents often lure innocent youths in small or district towns with a false promise of plump jobs abroad, sometimes even landing them in jail.
