A M Ariff, born on May 20, 1964, is a well-known figure in Indian politics. He has been serving as a Member of Parliament for Alappuzha since 2019. A member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), he represented the Aroor constituency in the Kerala Legislative Assembly from 2006 to 2019. He pursued his BSc. He earned a degree in Zoology at S.N. College, Cherthala, and later obtained his LLB from Kerala Law Academy, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
He began his active political life through student politics as a BSc degree student at Cherthala S.N. College, where he was elected as College Union magazine editor and, later, as chairman of the union1. He subsequently held a series of positions in SFI as Cherthala area president and Alappuzha district secretary and finally became a state committee member of the party's student wing. He also became a member of the state committee of DYFI, which is the youth wing of CPI (M).
In the 2006 assembly elections, he made his first win from Aroor, defeating veteran political leader K. R. Gowri Amma. He was elected three times from Aroor to Kerala Legislative in 2006, 2011, and 2016. In 2019, Ariff was elected to Lok Sabha from Alappuzha. In the 17th Lok Sabha, he is Kerala's only LDF and CPI (M) MP.
He received the Best MLA award from the Rotary Club of Aroor Satellite City, 2010, Kashmir to Kerala Foundation, Mumbai, 2017, Development Media 2018 and Small Scale Industries, 2018.
