Abdul Khaleque biography

Abdul Khaleque is a journalist turned political leader from Assam for Congress and is currently a Member of Parliament from the Barpeta constituency. He was born on February 1, 1971, in Barbhitha, Assam, to his parents, Sohrab Ali and Sabura Khatun. He completed his postgraduate studies in Assamese literature at Gauhati University.

His formative years were heavily influenced by journalism. His grasp of the intricacies of Assam was shaped by his ability to write well and his newfound awareness of social concerns. As he entered politics, this experience helped him immensely because it made it possible for him to establish a stronger connection with the voters.

His political career started in 2006 when he was chosen from the Jania seat to serve in the Assam Legislative Assembly. This initiated a two-year period during which he promoted development programs, defended the rights of marginalized populations, and championed local causes. 2016 saw him serve a second term in the assembly, reaffirming his dedication to public service.

He took a successful gamble in 2019 when he decided to run for the Lok Sabha election from the Barpeta seat. He gained national prominence by representing Assam's interests in the Parliament after his victory.
