Xiaomi Mi 5, the much awaited flagship from the tech start-up is now officially launched. Xiaomi announced the smartphone in two separate events: One at Beijing and one at the ongoing MWC 2016 in Barcelona. The new Xiaomi Mi 5 will come in 3 variants in terms of specs: there will be two versions with 3GB RAM and one with 4GB RAM. Here are updates from the launch event at Barcelona.
Xiaomi Mi 5 will come in three colours: Black, Gold and White. This has 5.15-inch full HD screen. Xiaomi has not gone for the 2K display as some rumours had indicated. The Xiaomi Mi 5's body is made from High-grade Zirconia ceramic, which is hard to crack. Ceramic is 75 percent more expensive than high grade glass.
Xiaomi Mi 5 runs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. Xiaomi's Hugo Barra said the smartphone's processor is more efficient that the previous Mi 4 with 200 per cent better performance.
Xiaomi Mi 5 is the first Xiaomi phone with UFS 2.0 for storage. It will 32, 64 and 128GB versions. The 128GB version will have 4GB RAM. There is no microSD slots.
Xiaomi Mi 5 supports VoLTE with HD voice calls and faster call connections.
Xiaomi is still a startup at heart, said Hugo Barra at the launch. The company sold 70 million phones in 2015. IDC says it was no 1 smartphone brand in China
Xiaomi Mi 5 features a front fingerprint scanner.
Xiaomi Mi 5 is 7 .1mm thick, weigh 129 grams, has a 5.15-inch display. Xiaomi says their phone is 14 grams lighter than iPhone 6s.

Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro's price is RMB 2699, which is around Rs 28,308. The other versions are at starting RMB 1999, RMB, 2299, which is around Rs 21,000 and Rs 24,000.
