New Yorker Nick Johnson has become the first US citizen to catch all the 142 Pokémons in his country, thus rising to instant fame, because the world is obsessed with Pokémon GO and how to ‘catch ’em all.’ Pokémon GO technically has 151 Pokémons, of which three — Farfetch’d, Mr Mime, and Kangaskhan are region exclusive (New Zealand, Asia and Australia). There’s no word on where the remaining six are located. The list includes: Mew, Mewtwo, Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno and Ditto, and there’s a chart on Reddit as well, which lists Pokémons according to how common they are.
Johnson told Business Insider, he is looking for sponsors to fund trips to these parts of the world in order to catch the remaining three Pokémons. But his US collection is complete, according to the Pokedex.
Nick Johnson, whose Reddit user name is ftb_hodor first posted about the achievement on Reddit, and shared a picture as well with his entire Pokédex achievement.
So how did Johnson achieve this feat? He told Business Insider, that he walked eight hours daily after work, and would keep hunting for Pokémons all over Manhattan and Brooklyn. Talk about dedication. By the time he came home, Johnson would usually pass out, and according to his iPhone health app he walked “an average of 8 miles a day in the two weeks since the game came out.”
He also admitted the game is better when you’re playing it in the city, rather than in rural areas. Johnson wrote on Reddit, “Yes, when I went to a rural area for weekend Pokemon were incredibly hard to find until I got to a hotspot in one town. It’s a shame the game doesn’t work there as it would be so much fun to actually be able to explore outside the city with this game.”
The final Pokémon he got was Omastar. Is Johnson’s Pokémon saga over? No, because apparently his girlfriend still needs help finishing her collection.
Pokémon GO has so far launched in Europe, United States, New Zealand, Australia and Japan. The company has promised the game will be released in over 200 countries soon, although there’s no word on when it will start rolling out to the rest of the world. However iPhone and Android users in other parts of the world, where the game is yet to launch, have already found tricks to sideload the app on their phone.
Pokémon GO brings together augmented reality and geo-caching data to send users on a hunt for these magical creatures.
