Nexus 6P’s screen has popped out and is singed from the middle (Source: Reddit)
A Reddit user by the name yamz66 has shared images of a burnt Nexus 6P device, claiming it exploded while charging. According to the post, the owner of the phone was woken up to the sound of a loud pop. He saw a thick cloud of smoke, bright red glow and sparks coming from the night stand where his Nexus 6P was charging. Yamz66 claims he has been using the official USB Type-C charger for the device that came in the box, since it was purchased in November 2015.
The images shared by the user shows a phone (still attached to the charging cable) that has tell-tale signs of fire damage. The screen of the device has popped out and is singed from the middle, that also features a hole in the screen along with cracks. The finger print scanner on the back of the device has popped out. The back of the phone also shows discolouration and heat damage. The sides of the device looks charred.
Another Reddit user going by Liam892010 in another forum seven months ago reported his Nexus 6P charger catching fire. This user also claimed that he was charging the device using the authentic Nexus 6P charger that came in the box. According to the user, the phone started smoldering 10 seconds after being plugged in for charging. However, as another Reddit user pointed out in the comments section below, “Images or it didn’t happen”, so we are not sure of the extent of the phone’s damage.

Earlier this month, a man from Australia had an Apple iPhone 6 burn in his back pocket as he fell down on it while cycling. The base of the phone (as explained by the man) looked like “something from a chemical explosion.”
