Kloppmania officially gets underway today when Liverpool play their first match under the charismatic Jurgen Klopp. And it is not just goals that the fans will be looking out for, but also their new manager’s often over-the-top reactions to them. Here’s our look at seven Klopp celebration specials.
He might bring a whole new style of play with more “pressing” and “high energy” but one thing that we can be sure that Jurgen Klopp will bring to the EPL is a whole new style of celebration.

Most managers might be wary of being too emotional and restrict themselves to the odd pumping gesture of clenched fist, but the former Borussia Dortmund manager pretty much wears his heart on his sleeve at the touchline – so much so that his goal celebrations in many cases are more spectacular than those of the players who actually scored them. So if you are a Liverpool fan, we would advise you to get ready to sample the following Klopp special celebrations:
Klopp Air
A running jump into the sky, seemingly climbing an invisible staircase. And the man actually gets pretty good height (being that tall helps, we guess).
Klopp Run
Similar to Klopp Air, but minus the jump at the end. This is pretty much a tall German in spectacles sprinting endlessly, often past bemused opposition managers (hey, just ask Pep Guardiola if you don’t believe us).
Klopp Hook
This is a single punch that the huge German literally digs out from the air. Starts at around knee level and then rises. Might be repeated at short intervals for added effect.
Klopp Double Punch
This is a seemingly endless series of punches thrown at an invisible opponent right in front of him. Start from about shoulder height and head straight in front! Woe betide the person who comes within range of those arms.
Klopp Trip
Yes, he does a fair amount of sprinting on the touchlines, but while his clock speed might be impressive, he does have a penchant for stumbling and tripping. Damages have been minimal so far, but heavens, we do hope he keeps his spectacle prescription updated.
Klopp Lift
The name says it all – this is generally Jurgen running to a player and lifting him up as if he were a feather. He is well over forty, closing on fifty but the man has the strength of a horse.
The Klopp Dive
Hell, yes, the German manager has actually done the “dying swan” dive a few times too. Jacket manufacturers (and Arsene Wenger) must be wincing at the thought but the fans love it.
One more: the Klopp Spectacle Crush
We have no idea why Herr Klopp won’t give up his trademark spectacles in the age of the contact lens. But yes, as long as he has those spectacles on, be ready for them to be dislodged and battered in a few celebrations as Klopp gallops around hugging people and getting into clinches.
And there are a few more too – you can check out the full range of the Klopp celebrations at the official Bundesliga.
