Food is great to taste, but there is something to be said about a pretty plate of food. A gorgeous looking plate easily enhances the gastronomic experience for the diner, but sometimes, you just want to keep looking at it. After all, what if an extremely tasty meal is presented in an awful way? Well, it’s important to appease the sight and then tingle the taste buds to create an ever-lasting feeling – isn’t that what MasterChef has taught us?
Art associated with food is not new. And now, thanks to Instagram and other social media platforms, the focus of food has actually now transferred from the palate to the sight – the rise of the food art, if we may. Which where this trend in Japan – who are anyway known for their precision – fits in.
We all know sushi is an integral part of the Japanese cuisine. When one hears of sushi, we get images of rice, fish rolled into a roll, served on sushi mats, along with chopsticks, but a new trend in this food’s presentation is evolving and taking Instagram by storm – ‘Mosaic Sushi’.
Mosaic Sushi is quintessentially Japanese – not only that there is sushi in play, but also the arrangement is exquisitely precise, simple and stunning. Much like the Japanese arts. This food art form simply requires us to arrange various sushi elements in horizontal and vertical manner to form a geometrical and colourful pattern that makes it more appealing.
The art itself looks so mesmerising that it is almost immaterial if you like the food or not. One may also resist from eating as the guilt to destroying the art may be more.
Here are some pictures of beautiful ‘Mosaic Sushi’ that will leave you fascinated.
