Twitterati has come down heavily on fashion magazine Cosmopolitan for a ‘racist’ listicle on their website that portrays coloured models for fashion trends that needed to ‘die’ and white woman for those that are in vogue. Most of the people on Twitter felt that the magazine has subtly conveyed the sentiment that white girls are better than ‘black girls’ and were offended by its racist ways. A lot of them decided to #BoycottCosmo.
The article was first published in January, but the outrage started after it was reposted a few days back. After the controversy the editor has issued an apology note, clarifying their stand. (Read the controversial article here)
This is what the note said…
A note from the editor: This article focuses on beauty trends with images that represent those trends. Some images have been taken out of context, and we apologize for any offense. Celebrating all women is our mission, and we will continue to work hard to do that.
The Twitter meanwhile continues to be on fire:
why are all the trends that need to die seen on women of color? @Cosmopolitan pic.twitter.com/RqaOgrWIxi

Dear @Cosmopolitan as though women of color aren’t subjected to enough racism & sexism. Perpetrating white supremacist ideas of beauty. #woc
