A 48-year-old woman died of heart attack after a guard allegedly pushed her at a Punjab National Bank branch in Ludhiana on Thursday. Eyewitnesses said that Asha Rani was pushed when she got her turn to withdraw cash. They added that she fell down and suffered heart attack.
She was rushed to a hospital but could not be saved. Rani had been visiting the bank for four days to get cash to shop for her daughter’s wedding in February. She was given a token on Wednesday and told to come a day later to get cash.
Rani’s post-mortem was yet to be done as her family staged a sit-in outside the bank along her body till late Thursday evening until a compromise was struck. The family had earlier demanded that a case be registered against the guard and bank manager.
ADCP Paramjeet Singh Goraya said that Rani’s son, Parvinder Singh, would be given Rs five lakh compensation.
