A minor argument over a tractor entering a field snowballed into a communal clash in the Pawlikhas village, which falls under Meerut’s Kankadkheda police station on Sunday evening.

A dozen persons were injured as both sides indulged in brick-batting and, according to some reports, firing. The injured have been admitted to hospital.

“There are reports of firing involving two communities. The police and PAC personnel have been deployed in large numbers and no fresh incident has been reported since last night,” District Magistrate Pankaj Yadav told The Indian Express.

“Cases have been registered by both sides but no arrest has been made so far,” said Vineet Bhatnagar, Circle Officer, Daurala.

According to sources, trouble erupted when a tractor belonging to two men, Munna and Bhuria, entered the field of a villager.
