After Top Congress leaders Monday met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh claiming there was a threat to party vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s life, the Special Protection Group and the Intelligence Bureau were directed by the government to take maximum precautions for the leader’s security. This came after senior Congress leader from Puducherry, V Narayanasamy, received an anonymous letter in Tamil threatening to attack him and Rahul during election meetings in the state.
“It was an anonymous letter. It mentioned that ‘you and your party’ are against the men who load and unload goods. And, it said that ‘whenever you’ll go for a campaign, we will attack you. When you are sitting with the former PM’s son on the dais we will blast you and your leader’,” Narayanasamy told The Indian Express.
He said that he had filed a police complaint and also informed the party high command.

A high-level delegation led by Congress leaders Ahmed Patel and Anand Sharma met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and demanded enhancement of Rahul’s security.
“We told him about the specific threat. We said there is a need to ensure proper screening and security and he said that he would ensure that,” Sharma said.
Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to address an election rally at Karaikal in Puducherry Tuesday.
