Two Dalit teens mistaken for thieves lynched near Patna

A case of murder has been registered against two named and 18 unknown people of the village.

Two teen Dalit students, one of them son of an assistant sub-inspector of police, were lynched in a Patna village on suspicion of being thieves.

The boys, Chhotu and Bholu, had taken their class 10 examinations and were walking around Baikathpur village when they were caught by villagers and beaten mercilessly before being dumped in an unconscious state near NH-30, said police.

According to them, the boys, who resided in neighbouring Mirnagar, had gone to Baikarhpur village Tuesday morning. As they were talking to each other near a parked tractor owned by one Anil Yadav, some villagers mistook them for thieves suspecting them of coming with an intention to steal the tractor’s battery. A tractor battery was stolen from the village last month.

A case of murder has been registered against two named and 18 unknown people of the village. Superintendent of police (Patna) Jayant Kant said police were questioning the villagers and cases under SC/ST Act and IPC have been registered.
The boys’ families told police that the two had been going to Ganga ghat for bathing and alleged conspiracy behind the killings.
