Sohrabuddin case: ‘Witness’ cop now an accused

The court set aside CBI’s move, arguing the agency didn’t follow the law.

A special court in Mumbai ordered to arraign DSP V A Rathod as accused in Sohrabuddin Sheikh and his wife Kauser Bi’s fake encounter case. Rathod was one of the policemen allegedly involved in disposing of Kauser Bi’s body after she was reportedly killed in police custody. CBI had dropped charges against him and had placed him as a witness to testify in the case.

The court set aside CBI’s move, arguing the agency didn’t follow the law.

While pronouncing the order Tuesday, special judge M B Gosavi issued summons to Rathod, currently posted in Modasa as DSP SC/ST cell, for his appearance before it on June 9. He will now face charges of conspiracy, murder, kidnapping, among others.
