Vyapam Case: Shiraj Singh Chouhan offered deal, says man who blew the lid off scam

Indore-based whistleblower Dr Anand Rai on Wednesday alleged that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan offered to cancel his transfer if he stopped his campaign over the Vyapam and DMAT scams. The 38-year-old levelled the allegation in an affidavit submitted to the Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court, which is hearing his plea challenging his transfer from Indore to Dhar.
In his affidavit, Dr Rai, who has filed several petitions in the High Court and the Supreme Court over last few years, alleged that Chouhan summoned him to his official residence in Bhopal on August 11 and offered to cancel the transfer if he stopped campaign against him (CM) and his family.

The meeting, Rai claimed, began at 9:45 pm and ended around 10:50 pm during which Chouhan assured Rai that his and his wife Gauri Rai’s transfers would be cancelled. The affidavit added that the CM told him that he will instruct the Advocate General’s office to give this (revocation of transfers) in writing before the High Court.
Dr Rai was attached to Indore by Director (Training) Medical Services, Bhopal on September 5, 2011, after his appointment. His wife was posted as Medical Officer, Civil Hospital, Mhow, when she was suspended. After her suspension was revoked, she was transferred to Ujjain. Dr Rai alleged that because he had exposed involvement of influential people, including political leaders and government officers, he was transferred to harass him.
The division bench has now given the state government a week’s time to file its counter to the affidavit.
S K Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, said the meeting took place at Dr Rai’s instance. Both Rai and Mishra said a common friend was involved in arranging the meeting.

While denying that any offer was made, Mishra claimed that Rai wanted to share some information about the scam with the Chief Minister.
Dr Rai, however, said that the CM praised his campaign and promised to back him if he stopped targeting him (CM) and his family.
