Armyman objects to girl’s harassment, is killed

An Armyman, Ved Mitra Chaudhary, was beaten to death by six men who were harassing a girl at Rohta road near the cantonment area Thursday. He succumbed to his injuries at the Army Hospital. The officer had gone to get milk from a dairy when the incident took place on August 13.

Posted in 416 Engineering Brigade, Chaudhary was beaten with iron rods and hockey sticks before the attackers, who were harassing the dairy owner’s daughter, fled the spot. Ved had moved to Meerut in January with his family. He is survived by his wife Babita, son Vansh and daughter Tanvi.

“He sacrificed his life for my daughter’s honour. We will remain indebted to him forever,” said Krishan Pal, the dairy owner.

“Three persons have been arrested and a manhunt has been launched to nab the rest,” SSP Dinesh Chand Dubey said. “We salute the soldier who sacrificed his life for a cause.” His body has been sent to his native village, Titoli in Shamli district, for last rites.
