A day after three Border Security Force personnel were killed in north Kashmir’s Machil sector near the LoC, the BSF Tuesday blamed the Pakistan Army’s Border Action Team (BAT).
“In an early morning encounter, apparently, it seems a Border Action Team was given support by the Pakistani Army to ‘infiltrate’ some of the militants,’’ said Additional Director General, BSF Western Command, Arun Kumar. “It seems they wanted some operation on the post itself…the weather was not good and they thought that they would cause casualties and damage.”
This is the first time the BSF has blamed the BAT for the attacks on the LoC in the Valley and in Jammu sectors.
“When our company commander rushed to the site, he also engaged in an exchange of fire. In addition to the three personnel who died, some others suffered minor injuries,’’ said Kumar.
Giving details about the operation, Kumar said one of the militants who had an AK rifle and a grenade was killed in the action. Officials said BAT personnel had targeted Indian pickets and patrols along the LoC in the past as well. Kumar said the BSF and Army have foiled many infiltration attempts in the last few months.
