Gujarat: Arvind Kejriwal asks police not to take ‘wrong orders from the government’

"Police is for protection of the people. People pay for the salaries of the police'', Kejriwal pointed out.

Before leaving for Delhi this morning, Delhi chief minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal appealed the Gujarat police “not to take wrong orders from the state government, not to assault the people on government orders and also not to book false cases against innocent persons on orders of the ministers”.

“Police is for protection of the people. People pay for the salaries of the police”, Kejriwal pointed out.

He said, “Policemen must not worry because a new government is coming in the state after one and a half years. All cases against you booked by the government will be withdrawn by the new government”.

“People are angry…people are very angry with Anandiben Patel’s government. People will defeat BJP in December 2017 assembly elections,” he predicted.

He demanded withdrawal of all cases registered against Dalit youths demanding justice for Una flogging incident as also Patidars who were demanding reservation for their community. He also demanded immediate release of Dalit and Patidar youths arrested by the police.

He urged the government “to give such a punishment to the accused of the Una flogging incident that shivers even their soul so that no one in future indulges in such a heinous crime”.

“But if the government does not give harsh punishmentto them, it proves the connivance of the government in the crime and it show the government is using the goondas(hooligans) to oppress Dalits”, Kejriwal said.

Delhi chief minister said he also met the families of the policeman killed in the clash between police and Dalits demanding justice for Una incident. He held the government responsible for the killing of the constable.“What was his(policeman’s) crime? He was on his duty. But the state BJP government made the police and Dalits to clash with each other”, he alleged.

Kejriwal had landed in Gujarat yesterday. He left for Delhi on Saturday morning.
