Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali has said that he will keep visiting India to entertain people till his last breath. Ali, however, told The Indian Express that the next visit will only happen once the “atmosphere and ambience is favourable for music and art isn’t opposed”.
He clarified that the statement put out by him about not visiting in the next few months was misrepresented as “never visiting India again and cancelling all concerts”. This, he said, was “completely false”.
“I am an artiste and music is the only thing I know. Art does not know or care about boundaries and that is what I have maintained for most of my life. This is a great nation and has always showered me with a lot of love and affection. I will keep singing here till I have the energy. I only feel that the atmosphere needs to be right. How does one enjoy music in conditions like this,” said Ali from Lahore.
A fortnight ago, Ali had refused to sing at the November 8 concert backed by the Delhi government. Later, the Delhi government put out a statement saying that Ali was not visiting India due to “ill-health”. However, Ali said that there was nothing wrong with his health. “The health is okay. I just don’t want to be mired in any politics,” he told The Indian Express.
