Punjab and Haryana High Court’s judge Justice Daya Chaudhary launched the app, which can be downloaded for free on any Android or iOS-based cellphones.

The bar council will soon be associating itself with a bank, subsequently the lawyers will be able to pay the license fee online and shall not be required to physically visit the bar council’s office in Chandigarh.

Advocate Rajat Gautam, chairman of Punjab and Haryana Bar Council, said: “One can easily download the application from the google play store or itunes on their smart phones and log into it.

It is also an information giving centre, wherein the documents and procedures for applying for a license are listed. The mobile phone numbers of the office-bearers and other details are also available on the app.”

“Various forms like death claim form, identity card form, place and practice verification form, election rules and others will also be available on the app. Thus, the state bar council will be easily accessible both for lawyers and litigants. It is for the first time ever that an application has been launched by any bar in the country,” Gautam added.

Disclosing details about the bar council’s upcoming projects, Gautam said a housing scheme for advocates practising in the Punjab and Haryana High Court will soon be started, apart from a law college.

Gautam said: “My priority is to open a law college of international standards. Children of advocates will be
provided education at subsidised fees in this institute.”
