Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Friday met members of the Dalit family, who were flogged allegedly by Gau Rakshaks for skinning a cow carcass in Una, Gujarat.
Kejriwal inquired about the health of the victims at a hospital in Una and said that those responsible for the incident must be brought to justice.
Accusing the BJP government in Gujarat of being ‘anti-Dalit’, Kejriwal indicated that they had a hand in the incident.
“Why is the police not taking action? It indicates that Govt is involved. State government in Gujarat is anti-Dalit,” said Kejriwal.
On Thursday, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi visited the Dalit family in Una and assured justice. Rahul also announced an assitance of Rs 5 lakh to the seven Dalits who were beaten up in public. The Congress vice-president also accused RSS and BJP of “crushing” those against their ideology.
Referring to his meeting with the Dalit family, Rahul said, “They told me that they don’t see any way forward in Narendra Modi’s Gujarat. Sometime ago I had gone to Hyderabad… there a youth (Rohith Vemula) had committed suicide, but the government in Delhi attacked his family. Today, I went to a hospital… 11 people who do not know each other have attempted suicide at different places. What does this mean? This means that in Gujarat those who are weaker, whatever caste they might be belonging to, and those who don’t have money are being suppressed.”
