CLOSE on the heels of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) opposing the screening of Fawad Khan-starrer Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, the Shiv Sena has lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police against a Bollywood film citing obscenity reportedly being displayed through the film’s hoardings at various locations in the city.

On Tuesday, Shiv Sena activists burnt a hoarding of the movie Ishq Junoon, in protest against alleged obscenity shown in the posters of the movie slated to be released on November 11. Jitendra Janawale, a Sena activist, lodged a complaint with Juhu police station stating that the obscene hoardings may lead to a law and order situation in the coming days.

“It may affect the next generations. The posters must be taken down immediately,” states the complaint. “We received a lot of complaints against the hoardings at the Sena headquarters. There is a lot of anger among parents. Apart from hoardings in Juhu area, there is another close to three schools in Dadar. Parents, especially women, who go to drop and pick up their children feel embarrassed. We condemn the display of such hoardings in public spaces,” said Adesh Bandekar, president of Shiv Chitrapat Sena.

Bandekar said that these hoardings must be taken down immediately. “We are surprised how these hoardings have been allowed to be put up in the first place. There has to be some regulations on monitoring the kind of hoardings put up. The movie might have been censored but we are against use of such hoardings in public places. Considering public sentiments, we hope that the police will take appropriate action,” said Bandekar.

Police said they will conduct an inquiry. “We will inquire into the matter and then decide about the course of action,” said Ashok Dudhe, Mumbai police spokesperson. However, the film producers claim there is no obscenity in the hoardings.

“The hoardings do not show any sexuality and obscenity. These are simple hoardings with only three faces on it. We will have a talk with them to see what the possibilities are,” said Vinay Gupta, the producer of the film.
