Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took a sharp dig at the Uttar Pradesh government questioning whether the four lakh youth who received employment during the Maha Kumbh, primarily as motorcycle riders assisting devotees, will get jobs again “in 144 years”.
“The UP CM says that 4 lakh youth got employed, who were riding motorcycles (to help devotees commute during the Maha Kumbh). Does this mean they will get employment again in 144 years?” Yadav quipped, alluding to the next full-cycle Maha Kumbh, which occurs every 144 years. His remarks were aimed at the government’s temporary employment initiatives and the lack of long-term job opportunities in the state.
Addressing the media in Mahoba, the former CM further claimed that hundreds of people are still missing after the Maha Kumbh, adding that posters had been put up in public places.
“…If you visit Prayagraj, even now, posters have been put up outside police stations, hospitals, and public places. The Maha Kumbh has ended, but according to government data, around 900 people are still missing…,” Yadav claimed.

Yadav also claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party would face its “worst defeat ever” in the upcoming 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. “This is because they have still not comes to terms with their loss in the Lok Sabha polls,” he said, adding that the “PDA samaj” had united.
In the lead up to the general elections, Yadav had attempted to build a coalition of Pichhda (backwards), Dalit, and Alpsankhyak (Muslim) communities, or ‘PDA’.
He further claimed that the BJP would try to use the “80:20” equation to “divide” the ‘PDA’ community.
The Maha Kumbh, one of the world’s largest religious gatherings, witnessed an influx of millions of devotees, posing significant logistical and security challenges. While the UP government has hailed the event as a success, opposition leaders continue to raise concerns over mismanagement.
