Film-maker Vikramaditya Motwane may not have done a film which dealt with a social issue but he would like to do one soon, may be on women empowerment. The film-maker, who is currently busy with the pre-preparations of his next film, Bhavesh Joshi which will have Siddharth Malhotra portraying the titular role and will go on the floors in December, is supporting a documentary film, Katiyabaaz directed by Deepti Kakkar and Fahad Mustafa.
“I saw this film at a special screening and really liked the way it has been made and the way it puts across the message. I told my partners Anurag (Kashyap), Vikas (Bahl) and Madhu (Mantena) about it. As they liked the idea, Phantom Films decided to back it,” says the director, who thinks a little support from the industry can do a lot to make small-budget and documentary films get its due.
However, that isn’t all that is required. Motwane agrees that just a support from a well-known production house may or may not work. “But it is at least a step ahead,” he says as he adds that in the last few years, it is because of this kind of support that some of the documentaries have been released in theatres and have even done well. Coming back to Bhavesh Joshi, quiz Motwane about the female lead and he says it is yet to be decided. “We are working on the details and would announce it soon,” he says. Katiyabaaz releases on August 22 across 17 cities.
