Mohenjo Daro box office day 1 collection: Hrithik Roshan film fails to wow, earns Rs 8.8 cr
Mohenjo Daro box office collection on day one was a disappointing Rs 8.8 crore. The film came second in the BO clash with Akshay Kumar's Rustom.

Mohenjo Daro starring Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde received an uneven response from the viewing public resulting in the disappointing collection of Rs 8.8 crore on day one. Ashutosh Gowariker’s period drama saw about 25 percent occupancy on Friday morning, which climbed up to 40 per cent as the day progressed.
The film which opened on around 2500 screens was expected to earn around Rs 10 crore on box office day one. Mohenjo Daro is set in the Indus Valley civilisation and will see Hrithik romancing Pooja on awe-inspiring sets. The numbers can be compared to Hrithik’s last outing in bang Bang which earned Rs 27.54 crore on day 1 at BO.
Ashutosh Gowariker-directed movie has raked in Rs 45 crore from selling its satellite rights. The other Rs 15 crore have come from the sale of music rights. A R Rahman has composed the music for Mohenjo Daro. The estimated cost of the whole project, including publicity and advertising is Rs 115 crores, sources confirmed. Mohenjo Daro will now have to earn Rs 45 crore in India and Rs 15 crore in overseas market to break even with its overall cost.
It clashed with another big film, Akshay Kumar-starrer Rustom. The courtroom drama is based on the 50s Nanavati murder case and also stars Ileana D’Cruz and Esha Gupta. Akshay plays a naval officer in the film who finds out that his wife is having an extramarital affair. The case had a wide-ranging impact on the Indian judicial system.
While Akshay’s film got an upper hand in north India, Mohenjo Daro is performing well in south India. However, in terms of pure numbers, Akshay and his Rustom is expected to do better on day one at box office with the film expected to earn around Rs 15 crore.
