I’m excited about ‘Dangal’: Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari

Making her directorial debut with the upcoming film “Nil Battey Sannata”, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari is equally excited about her husband Nitesh Tiwari’s “Dangal”, starring Aamir Khan.

In the Nitesh Tiwari-directed “Dangal”, Aamir plays the role of wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who taught wrestling to his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat.

The upcoming biographical sports drama, produced by Disney Studio India, would release in December this year.

“I have been on the sets of ‘Dangal’ as my children are there. We have two kids. I am very excited about “Dangal”. It’s our own film, our own baby,” Ashwiny told PTI.

The director says she and Nitesh have quite similar cinematic views.

“We both share similar sentiments when it comes to cinema. We both love real stories,” she said.

Since both Ashwiny and Nitesh are directors, the couple help each other when it comes to work.

“For ‘Nil Battey Sannata’, Nitesh just gave the idea, we developed it further. He bounces ideas to me. I think he is a better writer than me,” Ashwiny said.

“While for his films I am involved in areas like art, costume and colours… I don’t contribute in writing department,” she said.

“Nil Battey Sannata”, starring Swara Bhaskar, Ratna Pathak Shah and Pankaj Tripathi, releases on April 22.
