Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie shocked the world two years ago, when she went public with news of a double mastectomy. The actress had undergone the surgery to prevent the onset of breast cancer.

Angelina Jolie recently revealed that she has also removed her ovaries last week and has now entered into early menopause. The mother-of-six will now be unable to bear any more children.

In 2013, the ‘Maleficent’ actress found she was carrying a genetic mutation that increased the chances of her having fatal breast and ovarian cancer. Jolie has lost her mother, grandmother and aunt to the deadly disease.

Sharing her experience through an essay in New York Times, Angelina Jolie writes: “‘I will not be able to have any more children, and I expect some physical changes. But I feel at ease with whatever will come, not because I am strong but because this is a part of life. It is nothing to be feared.”

Jolie, who is raising her family with fellow film star and husband Brad Pitt, underwent the laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy last week.
She said doctors had told her she had a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer due to an inherited genetic mutation.

She revealed that decision in a New York Times op-ed in May 2013 and was widely lauded by celebrities, cancer survivors and medical professionals for her openness, with many saying she was an inspiration for other women.
