Panjab University election: HPSU, NSUI announce panel for student elections

We will focus on promoting clean politics and work for the welfare of the students of the college, said Former president, HPSU, Kuldeep Singh Rawat.

The Himachal Pradesh Students’ Union (HPSU) announced the panel for upcoming Panjab University elections.

The announcement took place in a gathering of 100-150 students mainly from Himachal Pradesh. Akshay Dilalik was announced as the chairman, Sanjeev Negi as the party president. Preeti Negi from the department of UIET was announced as the campus president and Shrishty Sharma was announced as the vice-president, Nikhil Rugta as the general secretary, Devender Nanta as the joint secretary and Aman Nagaik will be the election in-charge.

Former president, HPSU, Kuldeep Singh Rawat, said: “Students are the power of the nation, so we should utilise the young energy in the positive direction and will focus on promoting clean politics and work for the welfare of the students.”

During the announcement of the HPSU office-bearers, members of the NSUI Student Front were also present wearing stickers of HPSU, raising speculations of a possible alliance with the student outfit.

On the other hand, the National Students’ Union OF India (NSUI) announced the name of the office-bearers in the DAV College in Sector 10 for the upcoming elections.All the office bearers for NSUI in the college are girls. “Defying the norm, this time we have a full panel of girl office-bearers in the university. We have got a great response from the girls in the college. So, we have decided to give them full and proper representation,” said Gurjot Sandhu, state president, NSUI. Prianjali has been named as the president, Ravdeep Mangat as the campus in-charge, Surbhi Ruhan as vice-president and Manvika Nayar as the girls’ wing chairman. Navneet Gill has been named as the president, Simran Bajwa as the party president, Gurpartap Waraich as the chairman. “The team of office-bearers is solid and will lead us to victory,” added Sandhu.

Meanwhile, a delegation of research scholars of Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) met vice-chancellor Arun Kumar Grover to put forth the problems faced by them.

Issues like room retention after completion of five years, exemption from six monthly or annual formalities for the renewal of Wi-Fi and hostels room were raised. Manoj Dhull, a research scholar, said: “Our delegation has raised valid questions with regard to the problem faced by the research scholars. Wi-Fi is being given to the students only for six months, which is very less. It should be increased till the time research scholar are pursuing study in the university. The students also feel the time taken by the continuation certificate by the university is also long. ABVP claims that the V-C has agreed to look into the matter and will also hold a meeting for the same on the September 2.”

The V-C has also expressed disappointment on the problems being faced by the scholars, he added.

“He has assured us that he will address the issues and will hold a general meeting in this regard with university officials and will also ask the director of the research students to look into the matter,” said Dhull.
