Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Maharashtra Navnirman chief Raj Thackeray on Thursday, in the backdrop of repeated attacks on the BJP by the latter party.

The meeting assumes significance in view of the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections where the BJP is keen on upstaging the Shiv Sena as the dominant party. With the two parties in all likelihood planning to contest the BMC polls independently, the BJP may have a covert understanding with the MNS to damage the Sena’s prospects.

The BJP has claimed that the Sena wants to portray a holier than thou image in the run up to the BMC elections inspite of having mismanaged the civic body which it has run for the past two decades.

The BJP, which is keen on taking charge of the BMC on its own, is eager to trump up Raj Thackeray as a foil to the Sena.
