Tara Mobile Crèches on Tuesday inaugurated a mobile computer aided learning centre. Malini Thadini, head, communications and corporate sustainability,HSBC Bank, inaugurated the centre, which will be operated from a specially designed bus.
The Azim Premji Foundation has donated the bus and the technology. Its operational costs for one year will be borne by the HSBC Bank. The bus will have 22 computers aided by multimedia software programmes, apart from a television set and play material for the children. It will be a supplement to the normal course that the children follow in school and make them more technology savvy, said Nisha Mehta, president,Tara Mobile Crèches Pune.
The courses in the centre will be on mathematics and general knowledge. The language of instruction will be Marathi, said Mehta. The Azim Premji Foundation had designed the course structure and four teachers who have been teaching in the mobile crèches have been trained, she said.
Tara Mobile Crèches has been taking care of children aged up to 16 years of construction workers across the city. As of now,we have no plans of extending our services as it will be difficult to maintain quality then. We hope to get another such bus soon. However, they are quite expensive, Mehta said.
