The Uttar Pradesh assembly unanimously passed a resolution condemning Justice (retired) Markandey Katju’s remarks on Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose on Friday. In his blog on March 10, Katju had called Gandhi a British agent, and Subhash Chandra Bose a Japanese agent.
As the house assembled, Congress leader Pradeep Mathur raised the issue about Justice Katju’s remarks on Gandhi and Bose, terming them as highly objectionable. Parliamentary affairs minister Azam Khan also supported Mathur’s stance. “Everybody is sad. We should pass a resolution condemning his comments. Such a resolution has been passed in both the houses of the parliament. It is shameful and we should also pass a resolution against his comments which were done for making his career,” Azam stated.

BJP leader Suresh Khanna also gave his consent for the resolution. Leader of opposition Swami Prasad Maurya said that Katju’s comments had hurt the feelings of people. “It reflects his insane mentality. Tomorrow he will say anything against our country. He just wants to become chairman of any commission,” Maurya stated.
BJP leader Satish Mahana stated that Justice Katju made another mistake when he commented on the resolution of Rajya Sabha. Rashtriya Lok Dal’s Dalbeer Singh demanded that besides the resolution, a case should be registered against Katju.
Reading the unanimously passed resolution to the house, Azam Khan said, “The house condemns the statements of Katju in strong words. It is a danger for the Indian democracy and shows his ill mentality by commenting on Gandhi ji and Subhash Chandra Bose. He is used to enjoying facilities and his real face has been exposed quite late.”
Later, Congress MLA Anugrah Narain Singh even suggested that a copy of the resolution should be sent to the Chief Justice of India.
