Oppn cries foul,seeks CBI probe

Doubting the government’s claim that Dr Y S Sachan, the main accused in the murder of the two CMOs,had committed suicide, the Opposition parties on Wednesday demanded a CBI probe into the incident.

Doubting the government’s claim that Dr Y S Sachan, the main accused in the murder of the two CMOs,had committed suicide, the Opposition parties on Wednesday demanded a CBI probe into the incident.

The family of B P Singh, who was shot dead on April 2,has also demanded a CBI inquiry into the entire chain of events leading to Sachan’s death.

“We do not know what exactly happened inside the jail but it is painful. The state government had claimed that he was the main culprit in my brother’s murder and had all the evidence. While investigations will tell whether Sachan committed suicide or was murdered, his death has led the case of my brother’s murder to almost a dead end now,” said IP Singh, brother of BP Singh, who was shot while he was on his morning walk.

He added,“We have been demanding a CBI inquiry for a long time. We hope that good sense would prevail and the case would now go to CBI.”

Samajwadi Party state chief Akhilesh Yadav announced statewide protest on Thursday, alleging that Sachan was murdered.

“The death of Sachan has complicated the entire case. His alleged suicide inside the jail premises is suspicious. We had been demanding a CBI probe since the murder of the first CMO Dr Vinod Arya but the state government did not react. Now,after the murder of two CMOs and this so-called suicide, only a CBI probe can solve the mystery,” said state Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi.

Bharatiya Janata Party state president Surya Pratap Shahi said,“We doubt that it is suicide. Two ministers had resigned following the murder of the CMOs. After a gap of over two months, the government blamed one doctor for both. We demand that the case should be referred to the CBI. We are sure that a CBI investigation would lead to the involvement of the government.’’

The Provincial Medical and Health Services Association decided to call a meeting on Thursday to discuss the issue. “We are in shock and not in a position to say anything. Let our general body meet on Thursday, then we will decide the future line of action.”
