For this S-I,Sabse Bada Mujrim in real life is similar to one in reel

His first Bhojpuri movie was released this September.

WHEN traffic sub-inspector (S-I) Anand Kumar Ojha, who was patrolling the Shaheed Path — a bypass on the outskirts of Lucknow — came to know on Monday that a 22-year-old girl was being abducted in an autorickshaw,he immediately “followed” the vehicle. This was not something new for him,as Ojha does the same act over and over again in his reel life.

A 2001-batch S-I,currently posted in the Lucknow traffic police,Ojha is also an actor. His first Bhojpuri movie was released this September.

“Days like these make me feel content about being a policeman. A few days ago, some villagers were injured in an accident and we took them to the hospital. Another day,we recovered a stolen car. I always try to give my 100 per cent on duty, perhaps to satisfy my creative thirst. Otherwise, this job often seems monotonous,” said 37-year-old Ojha, whose passion has always been acting.

Though he has acted in various plays and short films, his first movie Sabse Bada Mujrim was released in September. He plays the character of a brother among three — the main protagonists. One brother’s role is played by Ashiqui fame actor Rahul Roy. “Currently,I have an offer of a Bengali film and some Bhojpuri films. But I choose only those films whose shooting I can complete without disturbing my job as a policeman,” he said, hoping that one day he will gets to act in a Hindi movie.

It is because of his passion for acting that his seniors allow him leave for shooting,he said. Before joining the Lucknow traffic police last year,Ojha had been a part of the chief minister’s security.

Ojha, who hails from a small village in Bihar’s Bhojpur district, said: “My father is a farmer. Like my other relatives,he does not understand the urge to do something creative. No one in my family understands why I am so crazy about acting. But this is what gives me a sense of completeness,” said Ojha, whose role model is Amitabh Bachchan.

After completing his Class XII exam,Ojha left home for Mumbai. For a year,he looked for acting jobs and worked as a watchman. A year later, his father brought him back to the village, where he completed his graduation and also prepared for entering police. “My father fixed my marriage after I was selected to the UP Police in 2001. Six months after my marriage,I got a role in a Bhojpuri movie,” he said. But the film never released.

Later,he was selected for a role in a movie starring Ravi Kishan, but the role finally went to someone else. “After my film released in September,Ravi Kishanji called me and appreciated my work. He said we will work together someday,” said Ojha.

As his duty ends every evening,he changes clothes and attends his dance classes in Gomti Nagar. “Though being a policeman is hectic,I I attend my dance and martial art classes regularly,” he said.

On Monday, some passers-by informed Ojha that a student was being abducted in an auto-rickshaw. The rickshaw driver and his friend, having snatched the girl’s cellphone, reached Shaheed Path with her. As Ojha chased the rickshaw in his police interceptor vehicle, the duo tried to flee. However,Ojha and his team and arrested Jitesh. Rinku, who managed to escape, was later caught in the evening.
