Senior cops camp in Bisara, officials hold meet with locals

In an effort to ensure that communal tension in the village does not escalate, senior police officers, including Gautam Budh Nagar SSP and DSPs, were seen camping in the area.

On Tuesday afternoon, the nondescript village of Bisara in Dadri — which has always been home to Muslim and Hindu families — saw heavy police presence, after rumours of alleged beef-eating and cow slaughter by a Muslim household in the area led to the death of a 50-year-old Muslim man.

Meanwhile, 10 kms away, the Gautam Budh Nagar district magistrate and other officials held a meeting with a section of residents from Bisara and other neighbouring villages. “The meeting went on for over two hours. This was held in order to ensure that violence does not erupt and more rumours do not spread. We have urged residents to not pay any heed to rumours. It has already resulted in the death of a man,” said Kiran S, SSP Gautam Budh Nagar.

While the village of Bisara has not seen such communal tension in the past, a section of villages in Dadri have witnessed a rise in allegations of cattle smuggling. Over a month ago, three men —suspected to be cattle thieves — were beaten to death in Kaimrala village of Dadri district.

Speaking to The Indian Express, BSP MLA from Dadri, Satvir Singh Rana, maintained that the issue of cattle smuggling had plagued Dadri district in the past, leading to a lot of anger among residents. “The entire western Uttar Pradesh belt has seen a number of incidents of alleged cattle-smuggling. While we have urged the administration to look into this issue, the anger among residents continues to grow. It has come out in the form of such incidents,” said Rana.
