After surveying three under-construction projects in the city, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Satyendra Jain said on Monday that the work of constructing a 12-km road between Wazirabad and Swarup Nagar and another between Wazirabad and Vikaspuri will be completed by December 31, 2015.

Speaking about the Wazirabad-Swarup Nagar road, Jain said the project was stranded owing to disputes over demolition of some houses along its way and issues pertaining to acquisition of these properties. The acquisition would put an additional burden of Rs 200 crore on the government, over and above the Rs 200 crore budget assigned to the construction of the road.
“I have decided to use one half of the drain running along the road to erect pillars and construct an elevated road over it. This way, no house will be demolished. I have given a deadline of December 31 to complete this project within the budget of Rs 200 crore,” he said.
According to the PWD, 8 km of the 12-km road project has been completed in the past three years.
