Rain, thunderstorm in Tricity bring temperatures down
Weather warnings have been issued for dust storm or thunderstorm at isolated places along with squall during the next 48 hours in the region.

Rains late Monday evening brought respite from the scorching heat in Tricity. While rains and hailstorms on Sunday night had brought the temperature down, Monday morning had again witnessed a rise in the temperature.
As per the information given out by the city meteorological department, Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 26.5 degrees Celsius on Monday. Officials at meteorological department said that the climactic conditions changed after a trough at the mean sea level was formed due to western disturbances. The official further said that monsoon troughs are building up in the belt of Punjab and Haryana and greater the height of the trough formed, stronger will be the monsoon this year. The monsoon in the region is predicted to arrive by the last week of June or the first week of July. Officials said that there is less very little chance of heat waves in the next two days in the city.

Meanwhile, people across Mohali had to face long hours of power cuts after some technical snags were developed in the power supply lines after heavy rains and storm on Sunday.
As many as six transformers were also destroyed due to lightening in the Zirakpur area.
According to the officials of POWERCOM, they suffered losses to the tune of several lakhs as many power supply lines and transformers got damaged in the storm on Sunday. The officials said that the power supply in many areas could not be restored because the power supply lines were not working.
Powercom Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Inderpreet Singh said that half dozen transformers were destroyed due to lightening in Zirakpur area due to which the electricity could not be restored in Baltana and nearby villages for around 15 hours. Similar problems were faced by the residents in Kurali and Kharar. Many villages in Nayagaon, Mullanpur Garibdas and Kurali area remained without power for about 18 hours after the power supply lines were damaged. The power supply in Nayagon was disconnected for around 16 hours.
