PGI to hold interviews next month to fill 83 vacant faculty posts

THE Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) is set to hold interviews next month to fill more than 80 vacant posts of faculty members. According to PGI officials, they are in the process of filling 83 vacant faculty posts at the medical hub.

PGI public relations officer said the sanctioned faculty posts for the institute is 554, while the filled posts are 466 at present.

A fresh notification published by the PGI administration on its website stated that interviews for faculty posts under direct recruitment/assessment promotion scheme would be held for three days between November 15 and18.

The posts would be filled in 45 departments of the institute during the three days of the interview.

A senior PGI official said it was the need of hour to fill all the vacant posts because the rush of patient is huge. “The number of patient is huge. In the OPD, 10,000 patients visit on a daily basis. If we will have more faculty, it is going help in improving the patient care,” said the official.

The PGI has been recording increase in the patients visiting from different states of the country. As per the hospital records, last year PGI received more than 25 lakh patients for treatment. In 2015-16, over 24 lakh patients visited the institute OPD.

On Tuesday, PGI’s Faculty Association president Dr T D Yadav told Chandigarh Newsline that the PGI administration should also focus on upgrading the infrastructure at the institute. “If they are filing the vacant posts, we have no problem. But at the same time, they should also focus on upgradation the facilities like housing, faculty offices and more important the Operation theaters,” he said.

In April this year, when the PGI had announced the interview dates to fill 79 faculty posts, it did not go well with the institute’s faculty association as well. The association later agreed to the PGI decision about the new recruitment at the institute.
