Politicians,babus,religious figure: 41 top Haryana guns in CBI net

Top politicians,senior serving bureaucrats,a former IPS officer and a revered religious figure are among the 41 people from Haryana who are being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

Top politicians,senior serving bureaucrats,a former IPS officer and a revered religious figure are among the 41 people from Haryana who are being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for serious criminal offences ranging from murder,molestation to corruption. All 41 cases are under trial in CBI courts.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda divulged the names of those being probed by the CBI while replying to a question from BJP legislator Krishan Pal Gurjar on the issue in the Haryana Assembly. Among the prominent politicians facing a CBI probe are Leader of Opposition in the House and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) supremo Om Prakash Chautala and his family members. Chautala and his sons,Abhay and Ajay, are facing a CBI criminal chargesheet for allegedly amassing assets disproportionate to known sources of income. The chargesheets are currently on prosecution evidence.

The CBI is also probing Chautala and an IAS officer Sanjiv Kumar regarding irregularities in the appointment of 3,206 JBT teachers by the state government in 1999-2000,when Chautala was the chief minister. Another INLD leader and MLA Sher Singh Badshami and Chautala’s then officer on special duty Vidya Dhar also figure in this chargesheet.

Bureaucrat Sanjiv Kumar who is credited with exposing the irregularities and for having started a crusade against the Chautalas in the JBT recruitment scam,found himself booked in three more cases by the CBI as the case progressed. The agency registered a case against Kumar for allegedly showing undue favour to certain persons and firms by fraudulently and dishonestly incurring expenditure on various items. Another case against the officer was registered by the investigating agency for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The officer is also under investigation for allegedly entering into a criminal conspiracy with Sushant Swain,store purchase officer of Haryana State Project, Director,Prathmik Pariyojna and other private persons to commit criminal misconduct by awarding the contract for printing and purchase of text books worth Rs 5.25 crore,which was beyond their financial powers.

Among other prominent Haryana bureaucrats in the CBI net is Arun Kumar Sinha,IAS,Zonal Manager (North) FCI,who stands accused of amassing wealth by corrupt or illegal means by abusing his official position. The premier investigating agency has also booked senior IAS officer Anand Mohan Sharan for allegedly amassing wealth by abusing his official position while he was working in different capacities in Haryana and as Commissioner (Land and Disposal) DDA,New Delhi between 1990-2003.

Religious figure and chief of the Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda,Baba Gurmeet Ram has been booked by the CBI for the alleged murders of Ranjit Singh and Sirsa-based journalist Ram Chander Chherpati. He also faces molestation charges. Former IPS officer SPS Rathore was also booked thrice in the Ruchika molestation case but the closure report has been filed in two cases.
